Welcome to MaizeGDB!

MaizeGDB is the community database for biological information about the crop plant Zea mays ssp. mays. The following datatypes are accessible through this site: genetic, genomic, sequence, gene product, functional characterization, literature reference, and person/organization contact information. MaizeGDB's areas of concentration for the next five years are described on this page.

Maize Genome Sequencing

Sequencing of the maize B73 genome is underway, funded by awards from NSF, DOE, and USDA to WUGSC, CSH, AGI, and ISU. Sequence is being deposited as soon as it is through the sequencing pipeline and quality checked, and the status of sequencing can be accessed here. Information about the Maize Genome Sequencing Consortium, including links for accessing the sequence, can be found here (updated May 15, 2008).

Check here for Hot Papers! The MaizeGDB Editorial Board recommends noteworthy primary literature of interest to maize researchers that is appropriate for use by journal clubs on a monthly basis. The inaugural board was convened in 2005 by Virginia Walbot. The 2010 members are: Patrick J. Brown, Erik Vollbrecht, Paula McSteen, Nick Lauter, and Mario Arteaga-Vazquez.

Add Newly Characterized Genes to MaizeGDB! Add genes that have been recently discovered and/or characterized to the list by email.

Project Oversight

MaizeGDB is guided by members of the community of maize geneticists through feedback sent to us through the website, and by guidance from the MaizeGDB Working Group. Current membership includes Volker Brendel, Mike Freeling, Owen Hoekenga, Anne-Francoise Lamblin, Thomas Lubberstedt, Karen McGinnis, Lukas Mueller, Mihai Pop, Marty Sachs, Pat Schnable, Anne Sylvester, and Doreen Ware.

WHAT'S NEW Subscribe to RSS Feed

February 8: The MaizeGDB Genome Browser now has 'See this region at CoGe' button that leads you to the CoGE Genome Browser at UC Berkeley. CoGe recently implemented elliptical glyph links in their genome browser that show B73 syntenic regions in sorghum!

February 8: IBM2008 markers aligned to the pseudomolecule by the Arizona Genomics Institute (AGI) are now available as a track in the MaizeGDB Genome Browser.

February 1: The following tracks are now available on the MaizeGDB Pseudomolecule Browser in collaboration with PlantGDB, PLEXdb, and and the UniformMu group: UniformMu, GSS, PUT, and microarray probes (Maize18k and Maize58k).

UPCOMING

We're working on BLAST! BLAST speed will improve with the upcoming addition of a new BLAST server, and we're adding "AGPv1" and "maize genes" as BLAST database options.
